Hi Nic,
I'm using the FTP with an iPad and am wondering if there is any way to emulate the hold functionality provided in the Roland guitar synths (such as the GR-55) via MidiBridge. This function allows midi notes to hold while you play over them with standard guitar or even another midi patch and/or create interesting effects.
There are 4 midi hold modes in the GR-55 (from the Roland manual):
Hold Type 1:
Notes that were sounding when you pressed the pedal
will be held, and successive notes that are played while
you continue holding down the pedal will also be held.
This differs from “HOLD TYPE 4” in that if a note is already
sounding on the same string, the previous note will be
silenced, and the note newly played on that string will take
its place. This allows you to play without a break even if the
note is on a distant fret.
Hold Type 2:
Notes that were sounding when you pressed the pedal will
be held as long as you continue holding down the pedal.
Notes played after you started holding down the pedal will
not sound.
Hold Type 3:
Notes that were sounding when you pressed the pedal will
be held as long as you continue holding down the pedal.
Notes played after you started holding down the pedal will
sound, but will not be held.
Hold Type 4:
Notes that were sounding when you pressed the pedal will
be held, and successive notes that are played while you
continue holding down the pedal will also be held.
Up until this point I can kind of emulate this by intentionally "sticking" notes by switching scenes while holding some notes, but to get it to stop sticking you have to switch back to the same scene and play the same notes again which isn't really practical. I also have been using Loopy to try and create a similar effect, but you can usually hear the loop seam so that isn't ideal either. Possible?
