The Novation Launchpad iPad App works great with Novation Launchpad Hardware which sends NoteON Midi Signals. I can't get it to work with other Midi Devices like a Behringer FCB 10101 Footswitch though. Could MidiBridge help? Maybe if I attach the Launchpad Hardware and the other midi devices via CCK so that it recognizes the "certified" Hardware but still receives signals from other midi devices?
Would be my dream setup!

My guess is that they have coded their app to only accept incoming MIDI from a hardware device with the correct USB idents and that the 'secret sauce' into getting Launchpad to react is not in the MIDI stream itself. I did debug a launchpad issue some time ago and I'm pretty sure the only events it sends are note ons and offs. Indeed the lights are controlled with note on/offs as well I recall. I certainly don't remember anything unusual.
Maybe some hacker (ahem) might consider writing a little thru app that advertises itself as 'Launchpad S' (or whatever it is) and that might even be enough to fool the app into accepting MIDI.
All this is just theory. I don't know for sure. Hook up the hardware and load up one of the free midi monitor apps (or the not-free MidiVision) and examine the MIDI stream. If you want to paste the results back here I can take a look at the MIDI data and see if there is anything interesting. Make sure you have the midi monitor running as you plug the device in, just in case it sends a secret init handshake wen no-one is looking. ;-)
Regards, Nic.

OK, I tried this out with LaunchPad S and there is nothing secret in the MIDI stream.
It sends a note ON with velocity 127 when you press followed by a note on velocity 0 (same as note off) on release.
I tried hooking up a MIDI keyboard and rewriting the keys to exactly as above but the LaunchPad app was having none of it, even if I sent the events to the app's virtual input, which is only advertised as supporting sync anyway.
All in all, I failed, so I do not think MidiBridge will make any non novation hardware work with their app.
Regards, Nic.

wow nic, thx for your feedback!! purchased MidiBridge anyway. there is a comprehensive programming guide for the launchpad which confirms that it is mainly NoteOn events with velocity 0/127. as i am really keen on that setup i will go for a hardcore fake approach with teensy 3.1 arduino hardware. a nice DIY project for cold winter nights :-)
