Hi All
Does anyone know if it's possible to use MidiBridge to connect an Akai Synthstation 25 to trigger the iMPC app for iPhone?
It's not clear if iMPC supports CoreMIDI, and its ports aren't visible to MidiBridge.
iMPC has some great sounds and they're both Akai products. Surely it's possible somehow?
Thanks for any ideas.

Hi dd,
Actually you can:
1. In MidiBridge, go to Preferences>CoreMIDI Net and enter the word 'localhost' (no quotes) in the top field and press 'Connect'. This sets up a network loopback and if you did it right, you will see the number '2' badge on the Interfaces tab bar button at the bottom.
2. Back to main Interfaces panel, Connect Akai SS25 Kb in (on left) to CoreMIDI Net out (on right) - plug in the ss25 if you haven't already.
3. Press HOME button to background MidiBridge and start/switch to iMPC
Now iMPC will respond to the SS25 but how this actually works is completely beyond me and will need experimentation. I have found that notes trigger things in iMPC like 'delete track' and crazy things like that. In fact one note (don't remember which one) will make it crash. I don't have the first clue how to use iMPC but I couldn't get any of the pads to sound but maybe I was in the wrong play mode. I really don't know. Ideally some sort of MIDI specification for iMPC is required.
Regards, Nic.

Hi Nic
Thanks for your reply. I followed the procedure and everything worked as you describe until I tried to use the SS25 to trigger iMPC. None of the keys or switches make the slightest difference to any of the iMPC functions or pads.
I'm coming the the conclusion this just won't work, and pursuing plan B with a different sampler app. Would have been nice...

It definitely sees the MIDI messages coming from the SS25. I am guessing (since I did not try very hard) that the pads can be triggered by notes but finding them is the tricky bit. You probably need to play with the transpose button on the SS25 and try notes in every octave.
Of course if there is a MIDI spec for iMPC (again, I haven't looked at all) then this would make things much easier.
Once the MIDI spec is understood it would be straight forward to write some Stream Byter rules to map the SS25 keys/buttons to useful things in iMPC.
I like a challenge and would take this on, but I am pre-occupied with something else right now. Next week I am back to normal, so if you haven't given up on plan A and would like me to try and discover/find the iMPC MIDI spec just ping me then.
Regards, Nic.

Well after a bit more mucking about I have found 2 SS25 keys (out of all the octaves) that do trigger the iMPC, albeit somewhat uselessly. They both start a song / sequence, but with the tempo slowed dramatically. Like you, I haven't found any keys that trigger the pads. If you do feel like pursuing this that would be great. I'm kind of at the limit of my tech skills...

OK, I found this which suggests that the pads respond to MIDI channel 12. The SS25 transmits (fixed) on channel 1, so you can remap all notes on channel 1 to 12 in MidiBridge using the Note Splitter: - Touch the 'beaker' icon on Akai SS25 Kb in - Press accessory arrow on Note Splitter - Set Split Point to 0, Upper Split to 12 Do the localhost trick as before to get MIDI to iMPC and the notes on the SS25 as per the table linked above should trigger iMPC pads. I transposed the SS25 down one octave to get most sounds. Regards, Nic.
