Now propagating across the Apple App store is a new companion app for MidiBus - MidiMetro.
It's a MIDI clock driven metronome and sample accurate. It's accuracy of course depends upon the clock source being fed to it, but it was designed to be driven by a MidiBus clock in the background for perfect sync. It will mirror not only the MidiBus tempo but also the time signature and position. If synced to a DAW or external hardware it will respond to MIDI SPP and time signature messages also.
It can run standalone too, of course. In fact when running standalone it feeds its own implementation of the MidiBus clock back into itself!
It's an Inter-App Audio (IAA) instrument so you can insert it into IAA host apps like musicIO, Cubasis or Auria.
You can adjust the metronome volume inside the app and you can also 'nudge' the metronome sound forwards (or backwards if being driven by MidiBus) to match the click precisely to your real-world audio if you need to.
If you don't like my choice of metronome sound (bar accented snare) you could also have it sound the click on a third party app or hardware as it generates a MIDI note message for each click.
Full details of the app are available here on the App Store
A couple of important points:
- The MidiMetro manual mentions the ability to sync to MidiBus over wifi. Not sure what has happened but this has been a bit more flaky than I would like in recent testing. I will work on this and issue an update ASAP.
- I have applied for a bundle from Apple so existing MidiBus customers can add MidiMetro at a modest discount (and vice versa). Not sure how long Apple takes to approve a bundle, but if you currently own MidiBus it might be worth waiting a bit.
I'm happy to answer any questions about MidiMetro in this thread, so please feel free to comment. As always, please do leave a review on the App Store if you like it. If you don't then at least tell me why and maybe I can rectify matters before you hit me with the 'one star insult' :-)
Regards, Nic.
