Hi Nic,
I've been trying to add an event filter on my iRig Midi to block SysEx and Time/Song codes.
I have saved a preset in the Event Filter.
The problem is that when applying this change to existing scenes the change doesn't seem to be added.
One indicator is that after the change the scene name doesn't show in red (but in blue).
After saving the scene (to the existing name) the scene can be loaded again, and appears to work as entered.
I can see the On indicator flashing (for Active Sensing, I think, from my Yamaha KX88), and the signal is not transmitted to the output side modules.
I can also confirm the settings on the module.
However, if I load another scene and then return to the previous scene, the Event Filter settings seem to get lost.
I've tried a couple of workarounds:
Using the Event Filter Out instead of Event Filter In.
Adding another change on the iRig Midi module at the same time as the Event Fileter edit. This has the effect that the scene name is shown in red.
Neither of these workarounds have solved the basic problem when I go back to a previously saved scene.
It also seems that the results are not entirely consistent. The worst case that I've observed a couple of times (and therefore not really nailed the circumstances) is that the filter is activated but with a different setting, resulting in notes being blocked.
I've tried restarting the iPad (air original) with no effect. Thinking back, this problem has been around for a long time; scenes where I thought I'd blocked those messages where letting them through when used later. This seems to have applied to both the iRig Midi and my Presonus AudioBox iTwo.
Background:
I use the iPad, with Midibridge, Midi Designer Pro, and various sound apps for playing live, playing from whatever keyboard the venue or rehearsal studio provides.
The reason I'm concerned about blocking these messages is that certain combinations of controller keyboard with my Presonus AudioBox iTwo result in non-speaking or stuck notes. Using a Korg NS1 this problem was very obvious, but disabling MIDI time clock at the keyboard solves the problem.
The same problem exists with the Yamaha CP-33 at my local rehearsal studio, but this keyboard has no way to disable the Midi clock. However, with my own Yamaha KX88, sending midi clock doesn't seem to cause any problem.
I also find occasional problems with a Yamaha P-60 at my local live venue. It's clearly sending a lot of data (which I can't block at the keyboard), but the only problems I've detected are occasional missed sustain pedal changes.
All these problems are specifically associated with the AudioBox, but for safety I'd like to block these unnecessary signals on all my scenes. My only reasons for using the iRig Midi are because the AudioBox is useless with the CP33 in the studio and as backup to the AudioBox.
Best Regards, Dave.
