Hi,
I am loving Midi Bridge so far but I have one issue that I hope to resolve. I am using an Akai Mpd 18 usb Drum Pad, routed through midi bridge, with Ableton 9.1. The general latency is totally playable. The problem is every 3 seconds or so, it seems that Midi Bridge "chokes" and delays a midi note or two by about 30 to 40 milliseconds.
Here is what I have done to try and eliminate this:
- run the setup through router connection and ad hoc connection, problem persists on both (although better overall latency with ad hoc)
- turn off visualization
-turn every single function on iPad and Macbook Pro that is not essential.
I hope there is a fix for this as I am trying to build a "midi Suit" for performance and this would allow me to be totally wireless (crowd surf anyone!?)
Thanks in advance
Sean

Hi Sean,
I think the problem is just that wifi MIDI can be inconsistent, especially if there is some unwanted RF interference in the area. You seem to have done everything I would have suggested already, but with the right conditions you should be able to get a reasonably consistent latency of around 10ms on wifi. It will never be perfect though. My only suggestion remaining is to try the setup (stay with ad-hoc) in a different location away from fridges, phones microwaves, cell towers, plutonium etc... You would be surprised what is flying around you.
I can pretty well guarantee that the choking isn't in MidiBridge itself since the routing code is very stable, fast and proven. However, I should never say never and if you want to capture some development trace I can verify the MidiBridge latency statistics for you. Email me directly for this.
If your MacBook and iPad are recent models that sport Bluetooth LE have you checked out the 'Apollo' app which does MIDI over Bluetooth which is reported to be much more consistent. Not sure of the range (probably lower than wifi) and both devices have to have the requisite Bluetooth hardware.
Regards, Nic.
